Autonomy Lost and Regained: The Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolia of Kyiv, 1633-2019

Metropolitan

In Slavic Orthodox or Greek Catholic terminology, a "Metropolitan" is the bishop who is a prime hierarch or leader of an ecclesiastical jurisdiction (known as a Metropolia) that typically includes additional lower-ranking or "suffragan" bishops. In the Greek Orthodox tradition, the equivalent title is "Archbishop".
